THE MISSION: MILITARY CHILD EDUCATION COALITION

The Military Child Education Coalition works to ensure inclusive, quality educational support for all military-connected children affected by mobility, transitions, deployments and family separation. To advance this mission, they advocate, collaborate and educate on behalf of their core constituency of children and youth who have served in our nation’s military.

ADVOCATE

The MCEC helps military-connected children thrive in both good and challenging times and act as a proponent of children with national, state and local policy leaders to ensure their educational needs are recognized and appropriate support is provided.

COLLABORATE

The MCEC collaborates with foundations, corporate partners and other stakeholders of common interest to create and expand innovative ways to support military-children.

EDUCATE

The MCEC works to educate and empower parents and train volunteers, youth-serving professionals, educators and counselors to respond to the complex needs of children whose parents serve or have served in our armed forces. They teach military and civilian students, through a 100% acceptance model, to recognize their own strengths, support their peers, and thrive socially, emotionally and academically. Additionally, they develop and provide an array of research-informed tools, supports and resources to meet the dynamic needs of military-connected children.

In February, MCEC launched its Military Kids Now Education Survey which seeks to accurately identify the educational needs of military-connected students (ages 13 and up), military parents with school-aged children, and education professionals who support them. In 2020, MCEC will release SchoolQuest™, an interactive academic tracking tool for parents funded by The USAA Foundation.

THE EVENT: NATIONAL TRAINING SEMINAR

The National Training Seminar (NTS) is a globally recognized training, learning and networking event for educators, youth serving-professionals, military family members and leaders, and advocates who serve military children. Featuring research-based, high-caliber presentations, this event gives attendees the opportunity to engage with senior government, military, education and thought-leaders while providing hands-on learning and essential skill development to ensure every military child has the best chance to thrive and succeed.

In response to COVID-19, the 2020 National Training Seminar has been canceled. This event will be held in Washington, D.C. on July 19-21, 2021.
